Unveiling North Dakota’s Top 11 Lakes To Explore This Summer
As we get into spring I find myself thinking about heading out to my favorite lakes in the state.
How I wish I had my toes in the water and my butt in the sand. Okay, maybe a little cold for that, but there is something so therapeutic about being near water. There's a reason why people pay big bucks for a little slice of heaven on a piece of shoreline somewhere.
I recently asked my listeners on air and our fans on Facebook what is their favorite lake in North Dakota?
I was actually shocked by the number one answer. I mean blown away. I'm not saying it's not a nice lake, because it is, I just figured it would be something else. More on that in a moment.
According to North Dakota Tourism, North Dakota has somewhere near 400 lakes in the state.
That's just a few short of what they have over in Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes. However, as my Dad used to say, "Minnesota, is the land of 10,000 lakes and 5 fish." I always liked that one, I think what my Father was trying to say is that North Dakota has some really good quality lakes when it comes to fishing, and you can't argue with that.
Devils Lake and Sakakawea are some of the finest walleye lakes in the country. We also have our share of hidden little gems like Lake Metigoshe. You will also find small earth dams across the state that are popular recreation areas too.
Now is the time to start planning your summer vacation plans and it might be worth your time to explore one (or several) of these North Dakota lakes. Enjoy!
