Townsquare Media Bismarck/Mandan is sad to report the loss of a family member - one many of you know.

Former Cool 98.7 Morning personality J.J. Hemingway passed away early this week after a brief illness. The website of his more recent place of employment Shine 104.9/Spokane, Washington reported:

"It is with heavy hearts that the staff of Shine 104.9 relay the news to friends in the community, of the sudden and unexpected passing of Spokane radio personality - J.J. Hemmingway - on Monday morning, June 17, 2019."

A native of the Pacific Northwest, J.J. worked in the Seattle, Washington market, as well as on the East Coast, before landing the morning position at Cool 98.7, replacing morning staple Bob Beck.

In addition to his on-air duties, J.J. worked as a "voice-over artist," recording commercials for stations around the country, and owned a Mobile DJ-for-hire service, hosting weddings and dances.

J.J.'s son Jeremy memorialized his father this week on social media with a Biblical quote from Matthew 5:4: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."
