Changes will be coming to downtown Mandan as soon as next year following the approval of a plan to make modifications to the city's Main Street. City officials have signed off on a downtown construction project that will incorporate 10th Ave. all the way through Collins Avenue.

One of the main focuses of the project is making Main Street four-to-three lanes and adding parking on the south side of the street. The project will also focus on making pedestrian traffic safer. To do that, the project will include colored concrete, pedestrian sidewalk lighting, pedestrian crossings, and curb bulb-outs.

The project has a total estimated cost of around roughly $3 million. The majority of that cost will be funded through federal and state grants. There is expected to be a 10 percent local share cost that is estimated to cost around $324,000. Construction will begin at an unspecified time in 2020. A clearer timeline should emerge following contract bidding in October of this year.

More information on the project can be found at the North Dakota Department of Transportation website.
