BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota man has been sentenced to seven years in prison on illegal weapons charges.

James Siegrist, of Mandan, was charged in federal court with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon.

A jury convicted Siegrist of the charges on Aug. 28.

Authorities say Siegrist was handling a .45 caliber weapon in July 2012 when it discharged and struck a woman in the leg. He was arrested in March 2013 for possession of three handguns and 94 rounds of ammunition. Two of the handguns were concealed on his body and one was located inside his vehicle.

Siegrist was prohibited from possessing either a firearm or ammunition by virtue of multiple felony convictions.
