NBA/China Flap Results In ‘Strange Bedfellows’
The ongoing flap involving the NBA and the People's Republic of China had led to some curious alliances.
As Yahoo! News reports, two prominent political figures representing polar opposite positions have come together to call for action.
Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are among the U.S, lawmakers who signed a letter Wednesday "urging the NBA to suspend its activities in China until the country’s boycott of the league and the Houston Rockets ceases."
The letter expresses “deep concern” over statements from the NBA and the Houston Rockets in particular, in response to China’s backlash over a tweet from Rockets' GM Daryl Morey "supporting Hong Kong protesters in their conflict with the Chinese government." (Yahoo!)

The letter calls on the NBA to “put our fundamental democratic rights ahead of profit,” referring to the initial response from the Houston Rockets and the NBA that condemned Morey’s tweet as “regrettable.”
More recently, NBA commissioner Adam Silver released a statement clarifying the league won’t regulate speech.
