By order of the governor, the school system in North Dakota is closed.

West Dakota Fox reports Governor Burgum made the announcement during a press conference Sonday evening that all K-12 schools in the state, public and private, would be closed for one week in response to the coronavirus emergency.

Mr. Burgum said the closure would give each district the time to take stock of the situation and develop a game plan for the duration of the  crisis.

Regarding the loss of school days, the governor said most districts in the state have "snow holiday" days in reserve and would not need to make good on the five days lost.

Whether the time off will be extended remains to be seen. Mr. Burgum said the situation is changing quickly and would need to keep his options open.

Montana and Minnesota have also closed their respective school systems.
