DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) — The Chamber of Commerce in the western South Dakota gambling town of Deadwood wants city officials to lift an ordinance banning mystics, psychics and soothsayers.

Chamber Events Coordinator Sarah Anderson says it would be an opportunity to expand the town's offerings beyond gambling. But a local ministerial association is opposed to repealing the ordinance.

Mayor Chuck Turbiville says he thinks the ordinance is "antiquated." But resident Ardene Lance says she doesn't think fortune tellers and psychics present a family friendly environment.

The Rapid City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1cUCmbl) that the City Commission has scheduled a Feb. 3 public hearing on the matter.
