Something To Chew On…
There are few habits in this world I find more revolting than chewing tobacco. That being said, I'm even less enamored of people who don't know how to mind their own business.
This past week, the North Dakota Tobacco Prevention and Control Program sponsored something called - no joke - the Great American Spit-Out. It was, as you've probably guessed, part of a campaign to convince folks to lay that chewin' tobaccy down (story from the Tribune here).
If I thought they were gonna stop there, I suppose I'd be OK with it. Problem is, these are the same folks who saw fit to tell consenting adults - via local and state law - where and when they could smoke cigarettes (still a legal act, by the way). I'm sure any day now they'll be coming up with "progressive" legislation to protect us from ourselves by restricting the chewing of the devil weed.
No doubt they'll feel quite satisfied with themselves. As for me, the Great American Spit-Out leaves a nasty taste in my mouth...
