St. Alexius’ Alex Town Pediatric Renovation Aims to Enhance Children’s Hospital Stay [SPONSORED]
Every parent can relate to wanting the absolute best for their kids, especially when they are sick or in need. Now, an area hospital is focusing on putting children first with a brand new pediatric renovation project to help ease the worries of both parents and children alike. To help raise funds for the project, the 2nd annual St. Alexius Kickball Tournament (SAKT) will be held on Saturday, September 28 at the Clem Kelly Softball Complex from 8am-8pm.
St. Alexius Medical Center, a 306-bed acute care hospital located in downtown Bismarck, has been a trusted source of medical care for more than 128 years. To better accommodate their pediatric patients, the hospital’s Children’s Center is undergoing a major renovation. The pediatric area will replicate a small town and be appropriately named “Alex Town” after the hospital’s lovable mascot.
When children are admitted to their facility for any reason, it can be a stressful experience for the entire family. Alex Town is designed to help a child escape the reality of whatever injury or illness they’re dealing with while in the hospital. Stephanie Goroski, Director of St. Alexius Women’s and Children’s Services, explains what patients can expect to find in the renovated center:
The children will love Alex Town because every room will be decorated with the small town feel. It will have a fire station, police station, train depot with tunnel, toy store, pet shop, central park, civic center with a zoo, aquarium, planetarium, working stop lights, and more.
Alex Town will also have the latest gaming systems for patients to enjoy and new monitors so each room can serve as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
To raise funds for the project, the medical center is sponsoring the second annual St. Alexius Kickball Tournament (SAKT), a round robin tournament for either all-male or coed teams ages 18-49 or 50+. Last year over $21,000 in proceeds went to Alex Town. New this year is the SAKT 2013 Fundraising Challenge. The team and individual player who raises the most money for Alex Town will be recognized at the awards ceremony and will win some great prizes. There will also be a contest for best uniform, so get creative for your chance to win!
