Sylvia Browne: A Modest(?) Dissention

Self-described "psychic" Sylvia Browne died earlier this week.  Good riddance...

In reporting her death, an article elsewhere on this website described her as as someone who "dedicated her life to helping others as a spiritual guide..."

Speaking strictly for myself, I wish to offer a differing opinion.

While I take no joy in her passing, it is my opinion that Ms. Browne was a horrible human being who exploited the grieving for her personal gain.

Sylvia Browne, to refresh your memory, is the individual who told the mother of kidnapping victim Amanda Berry that her daughter was “not alive,”

Browne, along with people like John Edward and James Van Praagh, were, and are, flim-flam artists who use mind tricks to convince vulnerable people that she can communicate with the dead.

I have experienced my share of personal grief in my life, and know first-hand how crushing the loss of a loved one can be. I fully understand how desperate and vulnerable a person can be at such a time.

But I would urge you in the strongest terms possible not to turn to people like Sylvia Browne for the answers. They’re only interested in your money.

Before her demise, Browne had been booked and scheduled to appear, at the Bismarck Civic Center; some may wish to see another "psychic" booked in her place.  If you agree with me that the Sylvia Brownes of this world have no business bringing their “act” to Bismarck, I hope you will contact the Civic Center and respectfully register your protest.
