WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — A Chicago-area man wanted for questioning in the suspicious deaths of his wife and mother has been arrested after allegedly robbing a church in the North Dakota city of Ray at gunpoint during Mass.

Fifty-four-year-old Billy Varner was arrested Saturday night on several charges after a short chase. Formal charges were not immediately filed against him.

No one was hurt in the robbery. Authorities say parishioners chased the suspect and got a description.

Illinois authorities have traveled to North Dakota to question Varner about the deaths of 61-year-old Peggy Henderson and 82-year-old Dorothy Varner, who were discovered dead Oct. 28 in an apartment they shared with Billy Varner. Police haven't said how they died.
