62 Mile North Dakota Footrace Is March 19th. ARE YOU KIDDING??
Good lord that's a long way! Not feeling it? Then choose the 31-mile footrace ya wuss.
Imagine if you will, you're wearing your most comfortable socks and lacing up your favorite sneakers. It's a cool March morning and Bismarck, you're about to step out your front door and take a quick jog...to Lake Sakakawea. Yep, Bismarck is 61 miles away from Coleharbor via Highway 83. That is a highway...This is a trail.
It's called an Ultramarathon and it involves quite a few groups and trail associations. If you are interested the North Country Trail Association is a great place to start learning...
The North Country National Scenic Trail is the longest in the National Trails System, stretching 4,800 miles across eight states from North Dakota to Vermont, traversing forests and farmlands, remote terrain and nearby communities. Whether you’re looking to day-hike a few miles or plan a longer overnight backpacking trip, a multitude of diverse landscapes and hiking opportunities are waiting for you.
Some decades ago I was a mile-a-day runner, but today I'd struggle to chase down the ice cream truck. So that's my story. I'd love to hear your story.
Who are the superhumans that run in an Ultramarathon?
You can certainly dive into these folks' heads at Extreme North Dakota Racing. So endracing.com is a community that doesn't want to "end racing", it's just an ironic acronym. But serious as my serious heart attack- a 62-mile trail run should kill any regular mortal. But not y'all. Love to hear from you in the comments. Would you/could you..sign up for this?
On March 19, the Sandhills Ultra Run Experience continues just 45 minutes southwest of Fargo in Mcleod, ND. This beautiful trail run has two distance options available at 50K and 100K. The 100K race spans the entire length of the Sheyenne National Grasslands section of the North Country Trail. Sections of wide-open prairie, pockets of forest, and rugged, rolling sandhills guarantee to keep the race interesting.
INTERESTING? Wait, did they say "forests"? OK, in North Dakota that would be interesting.
Gotta figure it will be icy or muddy in mid-March. My goodness, good luck to all y'all. Ultramarathon is ridiculous and these athletes require our respect. Absolutely insane.
