A ‘Punky Brewster’ Sequel Series Is In Development
Literally every single popular television show of the 1980s and ’90s has already gotten a sequel or reboot — from Fuller House to Twin Peaks to Girl Meets World to Magnum P.I. — and now it has come to this...
According to Deadline, UCP is developing a new version of the beloved sitcom, with original star Soleil Moon Frye returning to the title role that first made her a star, this time as a grownup...
The original multi-camera series, created by David W. Duclon, centered on Punky (Frye), a bright young girl raised by a foster dad (George Gaynes). In the multi-camera/hybrid reboot, Punky (Frye) is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.
Frye has wanted to revisit Punky Brewster for years. In 2016 she told Entertainment Tonight, “We gotta bring Punky back. I am ready. I am totally excited to be in it. I love the idea of who did she grow up into.” Now we know. She would grow up into a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.
If you’re curious, here’s what Soleil Moon Frye looks like today.
She definitely still looks like Punky! Do you think she’ll still go by Punky? “Please please, Punky was my mother’s name; just call me Ms. Punkinstein Brewster.”
