A State by State Comparison of When Folks Retire

When to retire? It's the days we all work for and look forward to. Smart Asset looked at the average age seniors retiring in each state across the nation.

The group went to the US Census Bureau data on the labor force, over a 5 year period to determine the average age of retirements. The surveyors search the data from both national and the state level.

The average age for most states was 63. The states with the youngest retirement age were in the states of West Virginia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Georgia. The states with the longest aged workers were in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire.

Here's a look at the Midwest states-
