A mass exodus of critters out of Yellowstone Park this past week has a lot of folks wondering if "somethin's up"...

A TV station in St. Louis (?) reported that bison and other animals were seen leaving the area in droves, leading to speculation that the underground supervolano beneath the park may be ready to blow its top.  A video seen on YouTube (above) apparently shows part of the animal "evacuation."

A full-blown eruption from the Yellowstone caldera could be catastrophic, laying waste to much of North America and possibly spewing enough gas and debris into the atmosphere to change the climate world-wide.

Don't let it ruin your plans for the weekend, however; geologists remind us that such a blast, while potentially apocalyptic, is not very likely to happen in the foreseeable future.

A series of small quakes have shaken the area in recent weeks, and as some experts point out, such activity in itself is likely to spook the animals; whether it's all the precursor to a larger eruption is another question entirely.

One park spokesman says the aforementioned viral video actually shows the big hairy critters running into the park!
