Costco Wholesale could be bringing a store to Bismarck sometime in the near future. The warehouse-style retailer recently applied for a permit for a filling station, which will be discussed in a public hearing.

In the language of the application, Costco indicated the fuel station would be part of a “a 157,500-square-foot Costco Wholesale Member’s Only Retail Warehouse.” The proposed fuel station would be located between 57th Avenue and Brookside Lane. Costco has not yet filed for a building permit William Hutchings, city land use planner, told the Bismarck Tribune.

Hutchings also told the Tribune that Costco has not yet fully committed and plans to go through the proper procedures of gaining city approval before it buys the land. The permit for the fueling station is just one of the requirements.

A public hearing has been scheduled for June 26 at 5 p.m. during a Bismarck Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

Costco is a membership exclusive retailing chain that specializes in selling items in bulk, though it also sells clothing, electronics, books and more. The nearest store to Bismarck-Mandan is located in West Fargo.
