Court Documents Reveal More Information On RJR Murders

Chad Isaak, 44, of Washburn appeared in front of the Morton County Court, Friday at 1:30 p.m. and faced charges of four counts of murder, burglary, concealment within a vehicle, and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Court documents have since been released and have provided more details into the case.

The affidavit for Isaak's arrest accuses him of shooting and stabbing the four victims.

Other documents say surveillance video shows a man prosecutors believe to be Isaak arriving at the RJR premises at 6:47 a.m. on Monday, wearing a bright colored top, dark pants and bright colored head gear. The man can then be seen leaving the building around 7a.m. now wearing all dark clothing, and then driving an RJR vehicle away and parking it at Indigo Signs. Police say they found blood smears on the door handles along with bright orange fibers inside the vehicle.

Police then see the man believed to be Isaak walk westbound towards Bill Barth Ford and out of view of surveillance.

Documents say a McDonald’s employee contacted police and told them she saw a man wearing a camouflage ski mask, dark pants and dark shoes. The employee also said the man had something stuffed in his jacket, which he placed inside a white Ford F150 before driving off.

Additional surveillance video shows the truck driving on Memorial Highway. A photo of the vehicle was taken and sent to all North Dakota law enforcement and agencies involved in the investigation.

McLean County Sheriff’s Department say spotted the truck and recognized it as matching the description of the vehicle detectives were looking for. A traffic stop was conducted after 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Deputies waited for a search warrant before searching truck.

Documents say a substance that tested presumptively positive for human blood was found inside the white pickup truck.

When investigators searched Isaak's home, the house smelled like chlorine, police said. A knife was found inside the washer, the base of the gun was found inside a freezer, and nine spent shell casings — matching the number of rounds fired at the site of the attack in Mandan — were also discovered. Clothing the suspect was wearing on the day of the accused murders was also recovered from the home.
