North Dakota’s newest U.S. Senator says we need a space force.

Senator Kevin Cramer, in a letter to the Fargo Forum (pub. May 9), says he supports the administration’s proposal to create the new military branch.

The Senator invoked the Bible is calling for new measures to protect the nation’s interests in outer space: "Without vision, the people perish."

In the letter, Mr. Cramer cites military developments of other countries - particularly China and Russia - as justification for creating the new force.

President Donald Trump floated the idea of the Space Force last summer in a speech to the National Space Council. He described the proposed force as "separate but equal" to the U.S. Air Force.

To be sure, support is far from universal. Critics of the proposal express skepticism of the proclaimed need for such a force, and many fiscal conservatives have suggested it's just another "boondoggle."
