Diamondbacks Beat Rockies, 11-8, in N.L. Wild Card Game

Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run homer and the Arizona Diamondbacks pulled away late to beat the Colorado Rockies, 11-8, in the National League Wild Card game in Phoenix on Wednesday night. With the victory, Arizona advanced to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the best-of-five National League Division Series on Friday.

Arizona built a 6-0 lead with a run in the second inning on the first of Ketel Marte's two triples in the game and Daniel Descalso's two-run home run in the third.

Colorado stormed back to within a run, scoring four in the fourth inning and adding another run in the seventh.

Relief pitcher Archie Bradley's two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Diamondbacks some breathing room, but he yielded back-to-back homers to Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story in the eighth to make it an 8-7 game.

A. J. Pollock's two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth gave Arizona enough insurance to cement the victory. They tacked on a run on Jeff Mathis' bunt single.

Carlos González plated a run off D'backs closer Fernando Rodney in the ninth inning, but Rodney got Arenado to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.

Andrew Chafin got the win in relief of Zack Grienke, while Jon Gray took the loss for the Rockies.
