A basketball player from the University of Mary has an opportunity of a lifetime to play for the world renowned Harlem Globetrotters.

UPDATE AS OF JUNE 22: Devan Douglas told us via Twitter that he
is going to accept the opportunity to play for the Globetrotters.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Devan Douglas was this year's College Slam Dunk Champion, a title earned in Houston earlier this year.

Douglas originally hails from Clinton, Iowa a town about an hour outside the metro Quad Cities.

Being drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters does not mean that Douglas has to play for them. The Globetrotters each year select multiple people who they feel would best fit the role of a Globetrotter including those who don't even play basketball.

Actor Kevin Hart was also selected among this year's Globetrotter draft class along with golfer Jordan Speith.

"We like to think outside the box with our draft, so we look at all different kinds of athletes that could have the qualities of a Harlem Globetrotter," said Sweet Lou Dunbar the Globetrotters' director of player personnel and coach in a news release. "Traditionally we have looked for talent at the annual college slam dunk contest, where this year Devan Douglas certainly stood out for us."

It is unclear if Douglas, who was selected second overall in this year's Globetrotter draft, will accept his opportunity to play with the team.

The Globetrotters held their draft last night live on Twitter.
