Time again for baseball.  To get you in the right frame of mind for the season, here's a rundown of some of the greatest baseball movies.

Coming in at number one for me is The Natural, a film that captures the mythology of the game better than any other.  The scene with Redford and the batboy is one of my all-time favorite movie moments.

I especially like the inclusion of John Sayles's Eight Men Out, a cult movie from the eighties about the Black Sox Scandal.  Other contenders include Pride of the Yankees, Bull Durham, 61* (about the Maris/Mantle home run race) and A League of Their Own.

I'm inclined to agree that Field of Dreams is a bit overrated.  I like a lot of the performances (especially Burt Lancaster and James Earl Jones), but all the hippy dippy, ain't-the-sixties-great-man stuff leaves me a bit cold.

A film I would have included would be The Bingo Long Traveling All Stars and Motor Kings, a tribute to the glory days of the Negro Leagues.

What are your favorites?
