According to the ND Fish and Game, the projection for the season is fair. Jeb Williams, Assistant Chief of Wildlife Services tells me, this is the lowest number of licenses issued since 1983 with a total of 59,000 issued for the season. He indicates that there are various reasons for this including 3 tough winters in a row and a aggressive harvest season. The state had record high licenses issued were in 2006 and 2007.

As with pheasant hunting, the deer season is a huge economic boost to the economy with brisk sales being reported in supplies, hunting gear, clothing and accessories. The impact can also be seen at local hotels, restaurants, fuel stations and bars during the season.

Jeb also indicates the deer opening weekend is considered an unofficial holiday for many families as they plan their vacation around opening weekend and or during the 3 week season.

The gun season for deer is open through November 24th.
