We love fireworks. They're bright, they're beautiful, they are a symbol of our freedom and independence.

As much as we love the light show and all the backyard celebrations, there are some who might not enjoy it as much as we do.

Of course, I'm talking about our pets. Yes, our furry friends can get frightened and extremely stressed out by the big booms and large crowds.

To help North Dakotans keep their pets safe and calm, we put together a list of ways you can keep them at ease this Fourth of July holiday.

According to Chewy, there are four things you can do for the 4th.

1. Train Your Dog

The source says the best way to keep your dogs calm on the holiday is by training them. Over the weeks and days leading up to the holiday, get them used to the loud sounds.

Play fireworks sounds at a low level out of a speaker around your house.

2. Exercise

Take your dog for a run or a long walk before the fireworks show. The source says making your dog tired will keep them less stressed and more relaxed during the fireworks show. Burn off their energy.

3. Create a Safe, Quiet Space

If your dog sleeps in a kennel, make it extra comfy with its favorite toys and blankets. Spruce up the area where your dog likes to hang out.

4. Medication

The source says that you should consider giving your dog animal-safe medication for anxiety/sleep. Of course, talk to your veterinarian before giving them anything.

There you have it! Hopefully doing those few things will help your pet.

Now, let's look at fireworks from the Capitol Grounds last year!
