Chickens Are On The Ballot In This Area North Dakota City

According to a post on the Lincoln, North Dakota Community Group Facebook page, chickens could be clucking in Lincoln soon.

In many parts of the United States, raising backyard chickens has become a popular practice for sustainable living. I live about 5 miles south of Lincoln, North Dakota, and in my development, several residents have backyard chickens, including my next-door neighbor.  In fact, they just brought us over a basket of fresh eggs, which was very much appreciated.

Not only do they have chickens, they also have ducks. I know what you're thinking. It must be noisy and stinky.  I can honestly say, that couldn't be further from the truth. His pen is always well-kept, and it's even very decorative.

Mandan, North Dakota also allows chickens in the Captial Region.

As somebody who works in Mandan, I sure haven't heard about any major issues with the new ordinance.  I'm sure there are a few bad apples (or chicken owners) out there but you sure don't hear much about them.  For the most part, I would say it's been a positive situation for nearly 5 years now.

Momentum continues to build with the residents of Bismarck to allow chickens, despite a Mayor who is firmly against it.  Here's some food for thought about chickens.

Chickens will be up for a citywide vote in Lincoln in June.

According to the post on the Lincoln, ND Community Page, it will take place on June 11th from 7 am to 7 pm and voting will take place inside the Lincoln Elementary School.

As somebody who favors fewer government regulations, I support allowing chickens in Lincoln's city limits (as long as chicken owners follow regulations).  Instead, let's do something about neighbors who let their dogs bark all day long.  Who's with me?
