According to a press release from the North Dakota State Highway Patrol, a car accident involving three Grand Forks teens and a 49-year-old man from Christine turned deadly early last Sunday morning in North Dakota.catastrophic

New Details Emerge

A nineteen-year-old by the name of Cornelio Vasquez IV of Grand Forks has been arrested and is facing six felony charges, including homicide while fleeing law enforcement, after causing a catastrophic T-bone crash that killed 49-year-old Ian Frye of Christine, North Dakota. Frye leaves behind 4 children, and his wife Shelby.

Vasquez could see up to 20 years in prison on one of the charges (Class A Felony) and a fine of up to $20,000 for a homicide while fleeing a peace officer.

Details of the Incident

On August 23rd, 2026, at approximately 12:15 am, a North Dakota State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a BMW for traveling 160 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone. The driver of the BMW fled eastbound on Cass County Road 14, turned off the vehicle's headlights, and disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Cass County Road 81.

The BMW then struck a Honda Accord traveling southbound on Cass County Road 81. The driver of the Honda, a 49-year-old man from Christine, North Dakota, died at the scene. The driver of the BMW, a 19-year-old from Grand Forks, and two juvenile passengers, 16- and 17-year-olds also from Grand Forks, were transported to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with non-life-threatening injuries. All drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts. The names of the juveniles involved will not be released per North Dakota Century Code.
