A judge says he may allow a group of Native Americans join a lawsuit over the Dakota Access pipeline, under the condition that they not add President Donald Trump as a defendant.

NBC North Dakota News says the group wants to add the president because his administration pushed through completion of the pipeline.

The Army Corps of Engineers had announced further environmental study of the pipeline, but canceled the plans after Mr. Trump called for the project's completion early this year.

The administration expressed confidence that federal analysis of the pipeline's environmental impacts "is legally sound."
