Moose on the Loose in Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota wildlife officials are asking people to give plenty of space to a young bull moose roaming through the Bismarck area.

Bob Timian, chief of enforcement for the state Game and Fish Department, tells the Bismarck Tribune that reports began coming in Monday night about a moose in the northeastern part of town.

Timian says young bull moose often are pushed out of their home range and expand their territory as they look for mates in the fall. He says if the young moose is left alone, it likely will wander off elsewhere.

But Timian says there's a danger if the moose is provoked, harassed or otherwise disturbed.

He says if public safety is threatened, officials will have to take other measures that could include killing the moose.
