MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — The Morton County Commission is protesting an annexation plan to expand Mandan's city limits.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the county commissioners decided at a special meeting Friday to send a letter of protest to the city.

The Mandan City Commission has proposed annexing 1,000 acres north of Mandan Middle School. But some county residents are concerned about increased costs for city services.

Mandan City Administrator Jim Neubauer says property taxes for the residents could go up. But he says lower utility costs could offset the increase.
