A train carrying oil from the Bakkens to eastern Canada ran off the track in Quebec, igniting explosions and fires that destroyed a busy downtown district and killed five people.

The train's 72 oil-filled tanker cars somehow came loose early Saturday morning, sped downhill nearly seven miles into the town of Lac-Megantic, derailed and began exploding one by one.  More on the story here via the Associated Press.
