If you're making $55,000 a year, there is no doubt you want to get the most out of your annual salary. Really, regardless of what your annual salary is, you want the most out of your pay-check. You want to able to live and have some money left for recreation and fun.

Smart Asset recently released a study of the top cities to live in for those making $55,000 a year. The good news is the Midwest is the best place to live to earn and stretch that annual salary.

Other findings in the study proved that capital cities are among the best cities to live in, in order to get the most out of your annual salary, with the exception of North Dakota.

The city ranking #1 in the list was Fargo, ND.  The reasons Fargo ranked at the top are the city score high in all of the indicators SA were scoring. Residents in Fargo feel as though they have job security and there is a sense they will not fall into poverty.

Other Midwest cities ranking in the top 10 were Billings, MT, Lincoln, NE, Appleton, WI, and Cedar Rapids, IA.
