BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The new entrance of the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck will not be opening next month as originally planned.

State Historical Society expansion coordinator Claudia Berg tells The Bismarck Tribune that construction delays have pushed back the opening, possibly until early next year.

Officials had hoped to begin opening new and remodeled areas of the state museum in stages beginning this summer. Berg says it's frustrating not to be able to do that, but the grand opening for the expanded and renovated center on the Capitol grounds still is on track for November 2014.

When the $22 million project is complete, the Heritage Center will have about 39,000 square feet of museum space, nearly double the original amount.
