The North Dakota Highway Patrol has announced that there will be extra patrols on the state's highways this upcoming holiday weekend.

According to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the patrols will be strictly enforcing all traffic laws throughout the July 4th weekend.

Beginning Friday, July 1st, troopers will also join local law enforcement agencies in a 'Click It or Ticket' campaign. The campaign, which has officers looking for motorists who are not wearing a seatbelt, will last throughout the month of July.

So far this year, according to the press release, 42 people have been killed in traffic accidents in North Dakota, compared to 52 at this time in 2015. Last year, one person died in a crash during the July 4th holiday weekend.

Motorists are encouraged to call 911 if they see erratic driving behavior and possible DUI drivers.
