North Dakota Named One of the Best States for Military Retirees
With Memorial Day on Monday, the best and worst states for military retirees have been released.
For many, retiring means relaxation and vacation, however, this is not the case for military personnel. According to The Congressional Research Service, the average officer is 45.2-years-old and enlisted personnel are only 41.1-years-old when they retire. This means most need to put themselves back in the job market.
Other than finding veteran job opportunities, they must consider taxes on military benefits among other socio-economic factors. North Dakota's overall ranking was 11th best in the country for military retirees.
Here is a further breakdown of where North Dakota stands in each category:
- 21st - Veterans per 100 inhabitants
- 16th - Veteran-Owned Businesses per 1,000 inhabitants
- 4th - Veteran Job Opportunities
- 10th - Number of VA Benefits Facilities per Number of Veterans
- 4th - Number of VA Health Facilities per Number of Veterans
- 3rd - Number of Military Bases and Installations per 10,000 Veterans
