Northern Plains Hunker Down for Weekend Winter Blast

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Blowing snow is making roads in the eastern Dakotas slick and leading to crashes during the morning commute. And forecasters say the weather is going to get worse.

The National Weather Service has posted a blizzard warning for much of North Dakota and part of eastern South Dakota, and winter weather advisories and watches for other parts of the two states.

Forecasters say the winter blast will bring only an inch or two of snow, but winds gusting to 50 mph will create travel problems.

Potentially life-threatening arctic air will follow on the heels of the storm, with wind chills expected to drop to as low as 60 degrees below zero Saturday night through Tuesday morning.
