If you're from North Dakota, or have been in the state for roughly ten minutes, you've heard about Dot's Pretzels.

Started In North  Dakota

Dot's Pretzels are wildly popular in North Dakota because they were created by an North Dakota woman, named Dorothy Henke, in the North Dakota town of Velva (just outside of Minot).

Henke started giving out the cookies locally, then started to sell them. It didn't take long for the snack to take-off regionally. Shortly after that national store chains started carrying the product, and the rest is history. You can find the pretzels in the potato chip aisle at nearly any grocery store. How cool is that?!

Side Note: The Dot's Pretzel Company was sold to the Hershey company last year for a whopping 1.2 billion dollars, according to MarketWatch.

The New Flavor

To date, there are Honey Mustard, Original Recipe, Cheese Curls, Southwest Style, Pork Grinds and Homestyle flavors. There are even a couple Dot's Pretzel bars floating around out there.

Look out for the sweeter side of Dot's Pretzels. The newest holiday-themed flavor is none other than Cinnamon Sugar. These pretzel twists are sure to end up in many North Dakota homes this holiday season.

Ok, so now you know why Dot's Pretzels are such a popular snack for North Dakotans, we can move on to the new flavor.

The Bismarck-Mandan Convention Center made a post to Facebook, announcing the new flavor. Take a look.

Look for the purple back at the grocery stores, and Happy Holiday!
