REAL IDs Rolling Out In NoDak

REAL IDs are now rolling out in North Dakota.

West Dakota Fox TV reports that the State Department of Transportation is now issuing the IDs in Bismarck with plans to go statewide in the next few weeks.

Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005 on recommendation from the 9/11 Commission.

The Department of Homeland Security noted that some of the 9/11 hijackers had used fraudulent IDs.

The commission said the government needed to set standards on the issuances of personal identification.

As the Christian Science Monitor reports, roughly half the states are already in compliance. Others, including North Dakota, have received extensions, and have until October 1, 2020 to comply.

Once the deadline passes, you will need a REAL ID in North Dakota to fly commercially, gain access to federal facilities and enter nuclear power plants.
