The man many consider the successor to the late Carl Sagan as the country's leading science advocate, is hosting this month's reboot of the class "Cosmos" series.

Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, is hosting the revamped miniseries, set to start Sunday on Fox.

The original "Cosmos" - hosted by Sagan - is widely credited with sparking an interest in science and astronomy for a generation, and with making Sagan a cultural icon in his own right.

Many baby-boomers best remember Sagan, a Cornell astrophysicist, for his idiosyncratic description of "billions and billions" of stars, a turn of phrase that Johnny Carson lampooned in another memorable TV moment.

In a New York Times interview, Tyson says he hopes the reboot will spark scientific interest and debate among the public, as did the original.
