Schools Re-Open as Temps in Dakotas Rise

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Schools in the Dakotas are getting back to normal after many called off classes during a day of extremely cold weather.

Schools were reopening Tuesday, though some were starting classes later in the morning. Many closed for the day Monday when temperatures dropped as low as the minus 20s, and wind chills plummeted to the minus 30s, 40s and 50s.

Temperatures early Tuesday were beginning to moderate. National Weather Service forecasts called for daytime highs in North Dakota ranging from the single digits below zero in the east to the teens above zero in the southwest, and in South Dakota from the single digits above zero in the northeast to the 30s in the southwest.
