Sheriff Speaks on Multiple Dog Attacks

GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) — The sheriff in northeastern North Dakota's Walsh County is defending his decision to kill more than a dozen dogs after a pack attacked a man who was walking by a Warsaw farm.

Sheriff Lauren Wild tells the Grand Forks Herald that the size and aggressiveness of the animals ruled out capturing and quarantining them. He says he wasn't about to endanger his officers or anyone else.

Wild says the dogs' remains have been sent to the state Health Department to be tested for rabies. Authorities also are cautioning the public that two dogs might have gotten away.
