Six Wine Facts to Help You Celebrate National Wine Day in North Dakota
May 25th is National Wine Day and we should all celebrate with a glass today (unless you're under 21).
Whether you're celebrating National Wine Day with a glass, a bottle, or more, all those of age should take a minute to appreciate a drink that's great for several occasions. There's so many varieties: Merlot, Cabernet, Shiraz, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and many others. No matter what your preference is, we think it's time to bring you up to speed on some fun facts about wine.
Winebags.com recently did a survey and asked, "What drink order is the most attractive for a first date." It turns out that wine topped their list with the most vote. That means it beat out craft beers, water, mixed drinks, top-shelf liquor drinks, and others. It's clearly better than any sort of sugary colorful mixed drink order, or tequila for that matter. Actually, if your date is ordering a shot of tequila as their first drink, that's a pretty indication that they might have a problem.
The Yale School of Medicine performed a study showing that wine engages more of the brain than any other human behavior. Professor Gordon Shephard wrote, "The molecules in the wine don't have taste or flavor, but when the smell stimulates our brains, the brain creates flavor the same way it creates color. Wine is heavily dependent on our memories and emotions and those of our companions.''
I feel like I'm smarter just thinking about wine as I read that excerpt.
You read that right. In 2006, Mercer's Dairy created a wine-infused ice cream. That's right, it's not just wine flavored, it's wine in ice cream. If you want, you can actually get drunk off ice cream. While it's made in upstate New York, the best part is you can place an order to have it shipped.
While I haven't tried it, all I can say is that something called "Chocolate Cabernet" sounds amazing. Also, all flavors are listed as 5% alcohol.
Ever drink your coffee and wish you could combine wine with it? Now you can! There's a wine-infused coffee that was created by Napa Valley's Molinari Private Reserve. The coffee has a hint of blueberry and sells at a half-pound for $19.95. You can also order the coffee to be shipped here.
Ready for a wine diet? A study by both Washington State University and Harvard showed that one to two glasses of wine a night can stop fat cells from gaining more fat. This is because wine contains resveratrol. It'll certainly cut down on the late-night snacking. Not to mention, wine makes you feel fuller.
Researchers at the University of Florence found that women who drink one or two glasses of wine before sex are more sexually satisfied and rate their sexual arousal higher than had they not had any wine. So maybe instead of the expression, "Wine and dine," it should be "Wine, dine, and then the other."...I'll leave that open to interpretation.
