Starbucks’s “Grande” Plan to Talk About Race
Race is not a black (coffee) and white issue.
Starbucks has introduced a new initiative in which baristas may write "race together" on cups and discuss the never-easy topic of race relations with customers.
There are many naysayers who feel a coffee shop is not the place to talk about such a subject, but Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz doesn't want to hear it:
I reject that. I reject that completely. It’s an emotional issue. But it is so vitally important to the country."
Employees are not required to talk about race.
The "Race together" campaign has been met with skepticism, particularly on social media where people have had a field day blasting the plan.
What do you think? Is this a good idea or should Starbucks simply serve coffee without bringing up any controversial topics?
