Trial Date Set For Mandan Man Accused Of Shooting Family Dog
A Mandan man who allegedly shot and killed the family dog after it bit his son has had his trial date set for October 8.
On Monday, Scott Hamilton, 32, pleaded not guilty to felony reckless endangerment charges and a misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm within city limits. An animal cruelty charge against Hamilton was dismissed.
Police responded to a welfare call to Hamilton's home on May 27. According to a police affidavit, the person who phoned in the welfare check to police had received a text from Hamilton stating he had shot the dog. Police said when they arrived Hamilton was "visibly intoxicated" and the body of the dog was found in his garage.
