UND Defenseman Keaton Thompson Signs with NHL’s Anaheim Ducks
University of North Dakota defenseman Keaton Thompson's collegiate career is officially over, after the junior signed an entry level contract with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League.
The deal, according to UNDSports.com, is for three years. The Ducks drafted Thompson in the third round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
In 105 career games at the University of North Dakota, Thompson racked up a plus-minus of +43 and added eight goals himself.
The defenseman's junior year, though, was a standout year, as he played in a career-high 43 games. He also had career highs in points and assists and helped lead the Fighting Hawks to their eight national championship.
Originally from Devils Lake, Thompson is the second defenseman from the University of North Dakota to sign with an NHL team after completing the season. Junior Troy Stecher agreed to a deal with the NHL's Vancouver Canucks last week.
