Unified Sports Will Give More Bismarck Students the Opportunity to Play
Have you heard of Unified Sports? The Bismarck School Board has approved this program which will give students with intellectual disabilities a chance to get involved.
According to KFYR-TV, Bismarck high schools are making history by implementing Unified Sports. Kids of all abilities want an equal opportunity to participate in school activities and sports, that's exactly what this program will help do.
The Special Olympics website states that roughly 1.4 million people around the world are involved in Unified Sports. It "breaks down stereotypes about people with intellectual disabilities in a really fun way."
To get the program started, a flag football team will be added to each Bismarck high school. KFYR-TV quotes Kayla Effertz Kleven, executive director at Bismarck Public Schools foundation:
Everybody will have a chance to play together... Learn about each other.
If the program goes well this year at the high school level, it will be introduced to middle schools.
We can't wait to watch this program grow in the Bismarck community!
