Having completing its sea trials, the $2.6 billion USS North Dakota was commissioned Saturday in a ceremony in Groton, Connecticut.

According to The Jamestown Sun, the nuclear-powered attack submarine is the first of eight boats being built as part of redesigned Virginia-class subs that make up the Block III group. It will have a crew of 14 officers and 120 enlisted men.

450 to 500 people with ties to North Dakota attended the ceremony, including Governor Jack Dalrymple, Senator John Hoeven, and Representative Kevin Cramer.
