MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Homeowners in Minot affected by historic Souris River flooding in 2011 can begin applying for grants to help with repair costs.

Homeowners who qualify are eligible for up to $10,000 in reimbursements. The application period opened Monday.

Certain restrictions apply, but officials say unlike previous flood-recovery grant programs, low-to-moderate income requirements apply to only about half of the federal money available. That means all homeowners with repair costs due to the flood are eligible to apply, regardless of their income.

Minot received a grant of $35 million last May, in addition to about $67 million received and allocated last year. The city is spending about $5 million on home repair reimbursements.

More than 4,000 homes, businesses and other structures were affected by the flooding two years ago.
