Police in the Mandan area are investigating an apparent assault at the town's local Walmart.

The Mandan Police Department released the following statement Friday afternoon:

On August 9, 2019 at approximately [11:27AM] Mandan Police received a call of an assault involving a knife inside the Mandan Walmart. Officers responded and arrived within minutes. Employees and customers of Walmart were evacuated. The store was closed. 
Police learned a Walmart vendor was approached by a male inside the store. The vendor did not know the person. The suspect began yelling and swearing at the vendor. The vendor tried to walk away. At that time, the suspect pulled a knife and assaulted the vendor. The victim received a small cut near one ear. He was examined and treated by ambulance personnel at the scene. His injury was not life threatening. 

Officers conducted a thorough search of the store. The suspect was not located. After reviewing store video, Police learned the suspect left the store immediately after the incident, before Police arrived. 
The suspect is possibly in his thirties. He was wearing a dark colored hoodie-type coat with an emblem on it, jeans and a baseball cap. He speaks Spanish. 
The Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. If you see the suspect, please call your local law enforcement. Do not approach the suspect.
