In an event held at the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark on Thursday evening, the Bismarck Baseball team announced their team name.

Following a 'Name the Team' contest and eventually narrowing down the list to five names, the Bismarck Baseball team which will be a part of the Northwoods League will be called the 'Bismarck Larks.'

The team name pays homage to the North Dakota state bird which is a western meadowlark.

The Northwoods League has 20 teams in the league and they play 72 games in 75 days. The first player signed by the team played baseball last year at the University of Jamestown.

Executives for the Larks promised a 'fan first' experience ensuring that every decision that is made from the players signed, to the hot dogs sold will be made with the fans in mind.

The Northwoods League has sent over 160 players to the major leagues. Curtis Granderson, Ben Zobrist, and Chris Sale are among the many Northwoods League alumni that currently play in the MLB.

The team will be managed by Sean Repay. More information on the team can be found at BismarckBaseballIsBack.com
