A polytechnic institution is supported by the private sector because it incorporates industry knowledge and skills into the education of the student's future workforce and provides a direct transition into the workplace.  In the end, this will help produce sustainable economic development on a statewide level.

Students are attracted to a polytechnic institution because each career pathway is customizable to all their needs.  Including opportunities to earn credentials, certificates, associate and bachelor's degrees.  This process can actually begin in high school for the student, offering a seamless transition from K-12 to higher education to a high-demand career.  Opportunities such as Bismarck Public Schools career academy which works through a partnership with Bismarck State College.  There are also considerable cost savings to the student, taxpayer, and private sector.

They hope to break ground on a new polytechnic building in 2022, with the facility open for students in 2024.
