Connecticut H.S. Student Stabbed to Death After Turning Down Prom Request
Early Friday morning, one student asked another student to go to the prom. When Maren Sanchez, 16, turned down the request, the boy who asked her allegedly strangled her, shoved her down the stairs and slashed her across the throat with a knife. Emergency responders attempted to save Sanchez's life, but she was pronounced dead at nearby Bridgeport Hospital.
The two were students at Jonathan Law High School in Milford, Connecticut. The stabbing occurred at about 7:15 a.m. Teachers and school staff then restrained the attacker, also 16. His name was not released since he is a minor. Police have him in custody and are investigating the incident.
“We’ll get the bottom of it or how it happened or why it happened,” said Milford Police Chief Joseph Mello.
The school was immediately put on lockdown and, soon after, all students were sent home. The prom has been cancelled.
